  • The Case for Optimism

    The Case for Optimism

I’ve been listening to the TED Radio Hour every now and then and always have been impressed with its great variety of interesting topics and outstanding audio production quality. Yesterday, I even downloaded the NPR One app to listen to an exclusive chat between NPR host Guy Raz and TED’s Chris Anderson where Chris reveals that listening to ideas from a wide range of topics enables you to get a bird’s-eye view of the world and see the similarities and connecting dots in all those different areas.

Yesterday, I also listened to the latest episode of the TED Radio Hour The Case for Optimism, which is probably one of the best episodes ever. It’s compiled of selected TED talks and personal interviews with people like former vice president and environmentalist Al Gore, the founder of the world peace game John Hunter, cognitive neuroscientist Tali Sharot, family activist Mia Birdsong and psychologist and co-founder of Surprise Industries Tania Luna.

  • Overlapping Mini Careers

    Overlapping Mini Careers

The full time job as we’ve known it is dying and it’s being replaced by overlapping mini-careers that people are doing through online platforms.

In Episode Twenty of the Slack Variety Pack we hear from a man in the process of shedding his full-time security blanket and a woman who’s mastered the side-hustle juggle. Would you rather have one full-time job or a slew of freelance gigs?

Many people might still feel more comfortable in a typical full-time job, but having quit the traditional 9 to 5 workday myself in 2004, I’m definitely in favour of the idea of overlapping mini-careers instead. In the long run this is actually more secure and will not become as boring as one single job will after a couple of years.

Slack Variety Pack is a podcast about work, life, and everything in between. In every episode it guarantees a glorious mix of stories on innovative ideas, modern culture, and people who have found their purpose.

    5 Helpful Morning Rituals

You might know one of his bestselling books, The 4-Hour Workweek, released in 2009, but you probably haven’t heard of Tim Ferris› podcast which was started in 2014 and already released over 100 episodes. He usually interviews people who are best at what they’re doing. He deconstructs world-class performers from eclectic areas (investing, sports, business, art, etc.) to extract the tactics and tricks you can use.

    4-Hour Workweek

Prior guests include Arnold Schwarzenegger, Ed Catmull (President of Pixar), Tony Robbins, Peter Thiel (billionaire investor), Mike Shinoda (Linkin Park), Neil Strauss (7x NYT bestselling author), Josh Waitzkin (chess prodigy), and many, many more.

In one of the recent episodes he himself answers the question about 5 morning rituals that help him win the day. Although he not always completes all 5 of them he is convinced that if he ticks off at least 3 of them, the likelihood of that day being a home run is infinitely greater.

    1. Make your bed
    2. Meditate
    3. Hang or decompress
    4. Tea
    5. Journal

If you want to learn about the rituals in more detail, listen to the podcast episode.
