A Guerilla Gardener in South Central LA

In my little home town at Lake Constance I’m surrounded by organic agriculture. I have a little apple tree in my front yard, but other than that I do not feel the need to grow my own fruits and vegetables. This might be completely different if you’re living in a big city like Los Angeles.

Ron Finley plants vegetable gardens in South Central LA — in abandoned lots, traffic medians, along the curbs. Why? For fun, for defiance, for beauty and to offer some alternative to fast food in a community where «the drive-thrus are killing more people than the drive-bys.»

Here’s a great TED talk he gave.
